Metropole Hotel
on the Matane river
The
Matane river
Famous for its Atlantic salmon fishing, the Matane is the
easiest access salmon river in Quebec. Situated at the beginning
of the Gaspé region, it is ending crossing the town of Matane.
The river is 55 miles long and more than 80 salmon fishing pools
are available for fly fishermen. The river is a ZEC territory and
is managed by the SOGERM (Matane river management society). The
river is public (except a 3 miles stretch), there are no
reservations and random drawings. All you need is a Quebec salmon
fishing license and a daily fishing access permit. You can buy
your daily fishing access pemit at the Metropole hotel. Along the
river, the road is paved for the first 22 miles and then a gravel
road for the other 33 miles.
When in Matane, make it a must to visit the fishway and observe
the salmon in their migration from the sea to the river.
